Ebook About
We've made it to the bug-out location, hoping to just hunker down and stay out of sight—only to find the leader of a local clan just couldn't leave us alone, resulting in a NOVEMBER FEUD.It's been almost two weeks since the EMP destroyed the American way of life as we knew it. The power grid collapsed and would most likely not be repaired for decades. I'm Jake—a husband, father, brother, Army veteran, militia commander, prepper, stacker, gun owner, and one of the few with common sense who hasn't panicked yet. I was the first in our MAG to recognize that an EMP event had occurred and knew best what to do because of both my military training and the many post-apocalyptic books I'd read over the years. I moved everyone in our group, along with our essential assets, safely to the bug-out location I'd been helping to prep for years. This is my story.WARNING: There is some harsh cursing by some of the characters. There are some scenes depicting extreme violence. If you can't handle that—this is NOT the story for you.

Book NOVEMBER FEUD (October Fall series Book 2) Review :

Wouldn't it be jake if, when the EMP drops and cripples the nation's electrical grid, all that's left worked together to survive in harmony? But, then, we wouldn't have too many of these TEOTWAWKI stories floating around. And I wouldn't have anything to read in the genre except Brad Manuel's The Last Tribe (which, admittedly, is a fantastic read).November Feud isn't a book with peaceable content. It's the sequel to October Fall, and it stages a string of violent sequences. In this universe, there is a community that forms and would come to gather in as its new members more neighbors and more like-minded strangers. But, as well, there are those who seek to take by force. Like, the prideful local crime boss, old Leroy Haug.Maybe some plot spoilers.Well, poor Boss Haug, whose pride takes a colossal hit time and again, courtesy of Jake and his peeps. It's like this. Haug had set eyes on a farm owned by a widower and his teenaged daughter who happen to belong to Jake's community, to his MAG, that is, Mutual Assistance Group. Haug had come to covet the farm, seeing as he thinks it'd make a fine new home base for himself. His opening gambit was to dispatch some of his goons to the farm, weapons cocked.I dunno, maybe, like me, you'd see the humor of how Haug carries on deploying his men to take on Jake's crew, only for those poor bastards to end up in the dirt, and then Haug sends out more men. Not even his steadily dwindling supply of goons can dampen Haug's wrath as his every move keeps on being stymied. As you know, if you'd read the first book, Jake and his family and neighbors had relocated from their gated community to Jake's sister's farm. There, Jake had set up an alliance with the neighboring farms. For Tolkien fans, it must've been a neat moment when Jake began assigning Middle-Earth names to the various farms. His sister and brother-in-law's place, he'd designated as the Shire. Take a guess as to what he'd named Haug's crib?We get to know more about Jake's new neighbors, really interesting folks like the ex-military couple, Paul and Anna, specially Anna, and that old recluse that had been hiding in their midst but who'd finally made himself known. It's a sprawling cast, with more on the way, as Neal and Alli's group has yet to meet Jake's crew. It's only been fourteen days since the EMP triggered TEOTWAWKI. But, already, various villains have come out of the woodwork, from local crime boss, Leroy Haug, to Top Cat's bike gang, to the Iron Saddle Bike Club, each new threat bigger and more menacing than its predecessor. I will say it's sort of unconvincing, what with Jake having eliminated all his sons and his best friend, that the vicious Boss Haug would then abuptly turn over a new leaf because Jake also ended up rescuing Haug's family from a bike gang. But I guess having all your sons violently killed - and it's your damn fault - and then being subjugated by a stronger force, that just may convert a body into a defeatist.I do recommend this series - only two books so far - for its characters, the survival tips, the strong sense of community it fosters, and for the action sequences. I think it's a good representation of the doomsday prepper genre. Well, okay, it's a bit Pollyanna in that none in our group has died yet. And just where is everyone else? Jake and company keep on not running into too many people, and this series doesn't fall into the doomsday virus-run-amok genre. Anyway, counting the days until the third book.
I love the EMP/dystopian genre and yet with only a few exceptions, find these books to be very poorly written. The potential is there but the writing in this series is juvenile at times and fraught with information dumps (usually about how to build something) that bring the pace of the story to a crawl. I had to jump pages frequently because it was like reading an instruction manual, not a book. The protagonist, Jake, is not really likable; I found him to be an arrogant, know-it-all who’s a little light on compassion. Most of the male characters speak like they’re still in high school and we have to read about AARP age Jake grabbing his wife’s butt in every chapter she’s mentioned. The amount of ‘loot’ his MAG is able to accumulate is totally unrealistic. The reader is supposed to believe that after 2 or 3 days in, no one else but his merry little gang is going to start frantically trying to grab whatever they need to survive? This group of 40+ people is living off a seemingly unending supply of protein and carbs (steak, pizza, bread, etc.), not to mention booze, with no apparent need to ration. Everything they want to build, they magically find the materials for and everything they build magically works on the first try. No one from the MAG gets injured during numerous gun battles, yet 1/4 of the group has little or no experience with firearms but have become magically proficient in 4 weeks by dry firing their weapons? Not to mention the amount of overkill involved in dispensing the ‘bad guys’ because they seem to have an endless supply of bullets too. I got tired of mentally calling’BS’ with both books in the series. I applaud the author for following through with his desire to write a book and then actually producing one but I think he needs to find a much better editor to help with character development, flow and dialogue if he intends to make a career as a writer.
